Grandmother's Fan Class
This is a traditional quilt block that strides right into the modern era with ease. With custom templates made just for Stitch Central, we've made it easy to use pre-cuts or your growing scrap pile to make this striking quilt or make a few and turn them into a smaller quilt or table runner. The layout options are limitless.
This is an intermediate class. Students must know how to use a sewing machine to create a scant quarter inch seam and must be comfortable using a rotary cutter. If you've taken the Don't Be Afraid of Curves Class and are ready to expand, this is the quilt project for you!
The goal of this class is to complete some of the Grandmother's Fan quilt blocks so you can go on to complete the quilt with confidence.
Necessary Supplies -
- Don't be Afraid of Curves Template set by Stitch Central
- AND Grandmother's Fan template set by Stitch Central
- Rotary Cutter
- Sewing machine
- Sewing thread
- Scissors
- 9 1/2" or larger square ruler
Quilt Shown is 72" x 72 ". To make it you'll need:
- 3 Yards of background fabric
- 1 Layer Cake and 1 Charm Pack of complimentary fabrics OR dig into your favorite scraps.
Other fabric options-
- If you choose to make all of the inner quarter circle pieces in the same fabric you will need 1/2 yard of fabric, 1 layer cake and 3 yards background fabric.
- To use Fat Quarters- 15 Fat quarters for wedges, 2 Fat Quarters for inner quarter circles. 3 yards background fabric.
*If you need to borrow a sewing machine, we have a limited number available and they must be booked in advance. It is always better to be learning on your own machine - it's the one you will be using at home!
We have all of these things available at our shop! Please purchase your materials before class so we can get started on time.
