My First CROCHET Sweater

Feel like graduating from crocheting scarves? Interested in tackling a bigger project to learn some new crochet skills? Try this class!

We will learn to make a top-down seamless sweater - no sewing at the end! This class meets four times, with one week between the first and second class, three weeks between the second and third, and two weeks between third and fourth classes. In the first class, we will talk gauge and then start the turtleneck. You'll have one week to finish it before the second class, where we will start crocheting the yoke. In the third class, we will start the sleeves and body, and the fourth class is for wrapping up!

This class uses the Chainette Turtleneck pattern by Knits 'n Knots. All attendees must purchase the pattern before the first class. It is available on Ravelry.

Sizes: XS (S/M, L/XL, 2X/3X, 4X/5X)
Finished chest: 38" (44", 52", 60.5", 66")

Part of the discussion in the first class will be choosing your size, so purchase yarn based on the the approximate size you're considering, and we can adjust after the first class.


Yarn & Tools:

We recommend: Berocco Ultra Alpaca (or the Natural), Malabrigo Rios or Silky Wool Aran

Approximate yardage: 748 (931, 1131, 1336, 1420) yds

Hooks: 6.5mm/K, or size needed to obtain gauge. Maybe one half size large for your starting chains.

It’s very important to crochet a gauge swatch to make sure your stitch sizes match the pattern, otherwise your sweater won’t fit!

To get the most out of the class, please complete your Lemon Peel gauge swatch before the first class. You can come to a Crochet & Sewing Clinic to get help with this! The directions for making a gauge swatch are in the purchased pattern.
